A. InterArts Residencies in Schools:
Striding Lion InterArts Residencies focus on the specific needs of each school, working closely with faculty and staff to create an interdisciplinary arts program that grows out of the classroom curriculum.
A team of two or more professional artists specializing in different fields leads each Striding Lion InterArts Residency. The artist-teachers guide the students through an arts intensive focusing on interdisciplinary collaboration. While introducing the fundamentals of the art mediums explored, the improvisations and arts activities used by Striding Lion also teach interpersonal skills and tools for teamwork. By using more than one arts discipline, Striding Lion artists offer the children multiple entries into the creative process. The artists are able to focus on each child's artistic strengths, giving the children more opportunities to succeed and leaving them with a positive arts experience. Each residency usually culminates in the performance of original material developed by the students.
B. After School and Summer InterArts Programs:
Striding Lion's unique approach to interdisciplinary arts education is well suited for extended residencies in after school and summer programs. Striding Lion artists from various disciplines work with children from 2nd Grade through high school, using arts games and improvisational activities to develop a common arts vocabulary and creative skills. Using the tools learned through these experiences, the students work with Striding Lion artist teachers to create an original interdisciplinary performance based on personal experiences, a piece of literature or folk tale, or a thematic idea specific to the program.
